Frequently Asked Questions
What is an ASN?
An ASN (Autonomous System Number) is a globally unique number assigned to a network operator — an ISP, cloud provider, or large organization — that controls one or more IP prefixes and announces them via BGP. For example, AS15169 belongs to Google and AS13335 belongs to Cloudflare.
How do I find the ASN of an IP address?
Enter the IP address into this tool. It resolves the IP to the ASN that announces the network block containing it, along with the operating organization and country. Every public IP belongs to exactly one originating ASN at a time.
Why does ASN matter for privacy?
The ASN reveals who actually operates the network behind an IP. A residential ISP ASN looks very different from a hosting/datacenter ASN (often used by VPNs, proxies, and bots). Checking the ASN is one of the most reliable ways to tell whether an IP is residential or a datacenter.
