Free IP API Comparison
Four free tiers, measured on what they actually include
There are a lot of "free" IP geolocation APIs, and the word free means something different at each one: free-with-signup, free-for-30-days-worth-of-volume, free-but-HTTP-only, free-for-non-commercial. Here's the verified state of four widely used options.

Sources, all fetched 2026-06-12: ipinfo.io/pricing · ipapi.co · ip-api.com/docs (and a live HTTPS request to its free endpoint, which returned "SSL unavailable for this endpoint"). Dashes mean we could not verify the feature on the free tier.
The honest summary
IPinfo Lite is the strongest choice if country + ASN granularity is enough and you don't mind a token. ipapi.co is clean and keyless but its free tier is explicitly an evaluation plan. ip-api.com has rich free fields but no HTTPS on the free endpoint and a non-commercial license. HackMyIP is for when you want keyless, HTTPS, city-level lookups with no daily cap — plus breach checking, DNSBL, rDNS, WHOIS, and ASN endpoints in the same free API.
