Kingdom Market Admin Sentenced to 16 Years for Dark Web Drug Platform

A Slovakian national, Alan Bill, 33, was sentenced on Thursday to 16 years (192 months) in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Bill admitted to operating Kingdom Market, a Tor‑hidden service that served as a marketplace for illegal narcotics and other illicit goods. The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia imposed the sentence, which also includes forfeiture of digital wallets and server equipment linked to the platform’s infrastructure.

Kingdom Market relied on end‑to‑end PGP‑encrypted communications and accepted payments in Bitcoin and privacy‑focused cryptocurrencies such as Monero, enabling vendors and buyers to transact with a high degree of anonymity. Bill’s responsibilities included maintaining the site’s uptime on the Tor network, managing the underlying server architecture, and coordinating with top‑tier vendors to ensure compliance with the marketplace’s rules. At its peak, the platform hosted more than 10,000 listings for controlled substances, generating estimated transaction volumes in the tens of millions of dollars.

The investigation was led by the U.S. Department of Justice, in cooperation with Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre and Slovak law‑enforcement agencies. Authorities seized the market’s primary servers, obtaining forensic images that revealed the technical setup—multiple VPS instances behind the Tor relay, with automated backup scripts and encrypted database backups stored on external media. The evidence package also included blockchain analysis reports that traced cryptocurrency flows from the market’s wallets to identified exchange accounts.

The 16‑year sentence underscores the continued pressure on dark‑web marketplaces and highlights the importance of cross‑border threat intelligence sharing. Security researchers note that the takedown of Kingdom Market demonstrates how law‑enforcement agencies can combine blockchain analytics, dark‑web intelligence, and traditional forensic techniques to disrupt illegal platforms, serving as a deterrent to other operators.
