Our speed test measures your connection speed between your browser and Cloudflare's global edge network. Results closely reflect real-world performance, though factors like network congestion, Wi-Fi interference, and VPN usage can affect accuracy. For the most reliable results, use a wired connection and close other bandwidth-heavy applications.

Slow internet can be caused by many factors: network congestion during peak hours, Wi-Fi interference from other devices or walls, outdated router firmware, ISP throttling, too many connected devices, or background downloads and updates consuming bandwidth. Running a speed test helps identify if the issue is with your connection or a specific website.

A good internet speed depends on your usage. For basic browsing and email, 5-10 Mbps is sufficient. HD video streaming needs 10-25 Mbps. 4K streaming and gaming require 50-100 Mbps. For households with multiple users and devices, 100-300 Mbps provides a comfortable experience. Remote work with video calls typically needs at least 25 Mbps.

To improve download speed: use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi, restart your router, move closer to your router if using Wi-Fi, close bandwidth-heavy apps and tabs, update your router firmware, check for ISP outages, use a less congested Wi-Fi channel, or consider upgrading your internet plan if speeds consistently fall below what you're paying for.
