What is a DNSBL?
A DNSBL (DNS-based blackhole list) is a database of IP addresses reported for spam or abuse, queried over DNS in real time. Mail servers and firewalls check DNSBLs to decide whether to accept, flag, or reject traffic from an IP.
How long does an IP stay blacklisted?
It depends on the list. Some listings expire automatically after days or weeks with no further abuse; others stay until you submit a delisting request and fix the underlying problem. Recheck your IP after requesting removal.
Does a blacklisted IP affect email delivery?
Yes, that is the main impact. Receiving mail servers consult these lists and may reject or spam-folder email from a listed IP. Some websites and networks also throttle or challenge traffic from listed addresses.
