Check Point Launches AI Network Firewall to Close Enterprise Visibility Gap

Check Point Software Technologies has unveiled what it calls the industry's first AI Network Firewall, a new class of network security designed to inspect, detect, and govern AI-driven traffic at the packet level. Integrated into the company's existing AI Defense Plane, the solution transforms conventional firewalls into intent-aware enforcement layers capable of understanding prompts, model calls, and agent-to-agent communication traversing enterprise networks, branch offices, cloud environments, and AI data centers.

Traditional firewalls have long excelled at identifying destinations, protocols, and permitted connections. However, as employees increasingly interact with generative AI platforms, applications trigger backend model calls, and autonomous AI agents communicate with external services and other agents without human oversight, legacy inspection logic falls short. Conventional firewalls cannot parse a prompt, detect sensitive data exposure within an LLM query, or govern multi-agent workflows, creating a growing visibility gap that adversaries can exploit. For organizations monitoring outbound connections and encrypted traffic, running a DNS leak test alongside firewall telemetry can help identify whether AI service requests are leaking through unmonitored channels.

The AI Network Firewall addresses this blind spot by embedding AI-aware inspection directly into the network perimeter. Rather than relying solely on IP addresses and port signatures, the firewall analyzes the context and intent behind AI interactions, evaluating whether prompts contain sensitive information, whether agent actions comply with policy, and whether traffic patterns suggest malicious behavior. This represents a fundamental shift in how network security teams must approach traffic analysis in environments where generative AI and autonomous agents have become core business tools.

For security leaders evaluating AI-era defenses, the announcement underscores the need for layered visibility that extends beyond traditional perimeter controls. Teams should audit outbound encryption hygiene using an SSL/TLS checker to confirm that AI service connections are properly validated, and conduct port scans to verify that no shadow AI services are listening on unexpected endpoints.
