Why a Singapore IP can show up as another country
Registry data says where address space was handed out, not where it is used. APNIC’s own file notes that its reports “seek to indicate where resources were first allocated or assigned” and are not “an authoritative statement of the location in which any specific resource may currently be in use.”
Two examples from 2026-10-25: APNIC’s delegation file counts all of 43.0.0.0/8 (8,388,608 addresses) as Singapore, yet the RDAP record for its first block, 43.0.0.0 - 43.63.255.255 (ALIBABA_CLOUD), lists country CN. The Singapore-delegated 8.208.0.0/12 has a first block, 8.208.0.0 - 8.208.255.255 (ALICLOUD-GB), whose RDAP record lists GB.
Geolocation databases build their own picture from measurements and feeds, so one site can call an IP Singapore while another does not. Most Singapore users still connect over IPv4 (21.9% were IPv6-capable in APNIC Labs’ 30-day average), but if your device has IPv6 and your VPN only tunnels IPv4, sites that reach you over IPv6 see your real country. Why does a website say my Singapore VPN IP is in another country?

If this page says Singapore and a site disagrees, that site’s database places the IP elsewhere; switching to another Singapore server gives you a different IP to try.
